5 FACTS ABOUT GERMS on FLOORS
Posted by Sheri Davis on May 16, 2012 in Facts, Healthy Hints | 0 comments
Fact: The average household has an estimated 1,000 to 2,500 germs, bacteria and virus per square inch on hard floors. Floors; We walk on them, drop food on them, we have pets who rub butts on them, cats who use litter boxes and walk on them. We walk in public bathrooms, parking spaces, public stores and across grassy areas. All of these are place that may have been stepped in or on a pile of poop, vomit, pee, dead animals etc. We transfer these germs into our cars and homes, every single day.
Fact: There is no such thing as the 5 second rule, except in the mind of the person who’s ok eating off the floor. The second your food hits the floor, germs and bacteria attach on contact.
Fact: The average home has over 100,000 dust mites per square yard of carpet. It’s true, we have them. The best way to keep this number under control is to get a proper vacuum for your floor type and family needs. Then vacuum often.
Fact: Not ALL germs are bad germs. It is almost impossible to destroy all germs. With the right tools you can cut down and control, but not all germs are bad. We need to come in contact with
some germs to build tolerance in our bodies for them. But we do need to control the bad germs.
Fact: Your floors are only as clean as the tools you use to clean them with. This is so true! If you’re using a regular mop or sponge mop you could actually be putting MORE germs on your floors every time you use the mop.
